Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) are a group of boarding schools that provide high
quality education at low fees. They are run by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti,
New Delhi, an autonomous organization under the Department of School Education
and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. JNVs
are fully residential and co-educational schools affiliated to the Central
Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, with classes from VI to XII. JNVs
are entrusted with the task of finding talented children especially in rural
areas of India and providing them education at par with the best residential
school system, regardless of their family's socio-economic status.

History of
Navodaya Vidyalaya Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme was launched during the year
1985-86 and is managed by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, an autonomous organization
under the Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development.
As part of the program of action of the New Education Policy,
1986, Govt. The Government of India launched the scheme under the
forerunner of Sh. Rajiv Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India
established Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in all the districts of the country to
provide children with special talents an opportunity to grow at a faster pace
by providing quality education irrespective of their potential. to pay for

As per the policy of the Government of India, one Jawahar
Navodaya Vidyalaya was to be established in each district of the country. Initially,
two Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas were established during 1985-86 at Jhajjar
(Haryana) and Amravati (Maharashtra). Till 2015-16 academic session, JNVs
have been sanctioned for 576 districts. In addition, 10 JNVs have been
sanctioned in districts having large ST population, 10 JNVs in SC population
districts and 2 special JNVs in Manipur, taking the total number of JNVs
sanctioned to 598.
Admission Admission
to class VI of JNVs requires qualifying in the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya
Selection Test (JNVST), an entrance test designed, developed and conducted by
CBSE. JNVST for Class VI is conducted annually across the country to
select 80 most meritorious students for each JNV.
It is conducted in three phases in a year depending on the session structure in
the specific state or union territory. Candidates can apply for the exam
only once during their class V.
The test includes mental ability skills, maths and regional language.
Schools provide reservation as per NVS policy which includes reservation for ST
and SC (but not OBC), at least 75% of students selected from rural areas,
maximum 25% from urban areas, 33% for girl students and physically handicapped
is fixed for 3%. Candidate.
To compensate for attrition and make better use of seats, JNVST, developed by
CBSE, is also conducted for admission to class IX and lateral admissions to
class XI, based on merit in class X.
The competitiveness in the entrance exam can be gauged from the fact that a
total of 1,878.15 thousand students appeared in JNVST 2015 and 41.48 thousand
students were selected (ie about 2% pass percentage).
Application Form
Steps to Apply Online Application Form for Navodaya Admission 2017:
First of all go to the main web portal of Navodaya Vidyalaya
http://www.navodaya.nic.in/.
Click on the application form link.
Fill the appropriate application form for class 6, class 7, class 8 and class 9.
Make sure that all the entered details are correct.
Pay the application form fee.
Then click on submit button for Navodaya Admission 2017-18
Please note that the last date to fill the application form is April-May 2017.
Admit Card
NVS Exam will be held on 1st June 2017. Initially, it was scheduled to be
held on 7th June 2017 but due to some delay, it will be conducted in the first
week of June 2017. JNVST Hall Ticket will be made available here. official
website in the month of May 2017. It is important to download the admit

Process to download
admit card online :
Visit the official website of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at
navodaya.nic.in.
Check Online Admit Card link from the website.
Click on Latest Circular / JNVST Admission section so that you can find their
online link for respective entrance test.
Open the admit card window and enter your roll number as per the exam form
submitted.
Click on the 'Submit' button to generate your online admit card for JNVST exam.
Take a printout and download the admit card for future reference.
Candidates need to check all the details of the exam mentioned on the admit
card like date, time and venue of the exam.
Eligibility Criteria
This is for the children studying in class V.
Students must have passed class III, IV and V in previous years without
gaps/breaks.
The age criteria is between 9 to 13 years.
Students are not allowed to appear in the selection test for the second time
irrespective of the circumstances.
Rural quota is considered only if the candidates have studied class III, IV and
V in a rural area school.

Area wise : Rural : Urban -75% : 25%
Gender wise : Boys : Girls -67% : 33%
Category wise : SC & ST - Minimum 15% & & 7%; Maximum 50%
taken together for both the categories.
Physically Handicapped: 3%
Method of Recording Answers
A separate answer sheet is always provided. Students have to mention their
answers in the space provided on the test booklet itself. The answer sheet
contains Intelligence Character Recognition (ICR)/Optical Character Recognition
(OCR) sheet. When you type, a copy of the sample answer sheet is
automatically attached.
You may use only blue/black ballpoint pen on this answer sheet. It is
important to bring your own ballpoint pens and pencils are strictly prohibited.
There are four possible answers to each question, and only one of them is
correct. Students need to select the correct answer and circle the
corresponding number (1, 2, 3, 4) mentioned against the possible answers on the
test booklet. If any type of annual mode is included such as marking(), it
will not be accepted as answer.
No change is accepted after the answer is written. Overwriting, erasing,
cutting is also not allowed on the answer sheet.
One mark is awarded for each correct answer.
There is no negative marking.
If a candidate has circled two or more answers, it will be treated as wrong. Even
if the circle has more than one serial number, it will be considered wrong.
Candidates need to read carefully all the instructions given on the main page
of the Test Booklet as well as on each Test/Section before starting the
examination. Students also have to check whether the test booklet received
is according to their selected language preference or not.

Three language formula
Each JNV teaches three languages from class VI to class IX to facilitate
migration. These languages are divided into A level and BI and B-II
level. The pattern to be followed in different categories of states is
shown in the table below. However, CBSE has made it mandatory for children
to study only two languages. So students from every category of states
appear in CBSE exams for A level and B-I level languages.
BOARD RESULTS
Navodaya Vidyalaya has consistently delivered the best results in CBSE Board
Exams over the years. In 2015-16 results, the pass percentage of JNVs was
98.87% in class X board exams and 96.73% in class XII board exams. The
pass percentage of JNVs has been higher than that of independent private
schools, government schools and even Kendriya Vidyalayas.
Smart Classes
Navodaya Vidyalaya in association with Samsung India has established Smart
Classes in 373 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas from 2013 to the end of 2016. Typically
a smart class is equipped with an interactive smartboard, laptop/tablet, Wi-Fi
connectivity and power backup. Smart class complements the regular lessons
of Mathematics, Science and Social Science to explain concepts in an engaging
and interactive manner. Teachers are trained to use tools effectively and
impart computer education.
