How do you decide what was famous among all those varieties. I
can think of a few reasonable ways, such as cue, rush, common sense, bragging
and number of seconds/doubles ("double marna" was a point of pride)
that would have led me to believe that something was more famous.
Famous Foods of Navodaya (JNV)
Mess personnel were strictly instructed not to let anyone have
seconds for most of the food items. We had a specialist non-bribe-eligible
Khayali Bhaiya who was famous for catching doublers.
But that never stopped anyone from trying, we are talking about Navodaya here.
The challenge makes it more fun. We take pride in doing the
"impossible".

(JNV)What are the famous food of Navodaya (JNV)?
Some students including me do not miss any chance to get second
serving of poha. And believe me it was not that easy to get Poha for the
second time. Once people in the mess announce that “we have some poha
left”, everyone rushes to get it. If you are lucky you will surely end up
with a plate full of poha.
Other food items were also famous in our Navodaya but Poha was
the most famous.
It was not food but a religion for us. We believed that
there are only two religions i.e. either Poha lovers or Poha haters.
Almost everyone who loves poha tries hard to eat a plate full of
poha. The quality of poha was well maintained during my stay of 7 years at
Navodaya. They used to serve poha with delicious curry and jalebi or sev
bhujia.

So after a heavy breakfast or a heavy meal when people retire to
their class or hostel you hear people bragging like I took 3 doubles, or I
passed Khayali Bhaiya and they didn't suspect anything.
And that's how we know what people like - bragging, the thing
that people brag about the most was definitely complete. Others include
non-vegetarian, evening snack, sweet.
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya
Special tea Tea
at Navodaya Vidyalaya
and yes special tea made for teachers. It was like the rare tricky little
forbidden thing that everyone wanted to take a sip of, the trick was very
simple, sitting by the teachers table and waiting for them to be out of sight and
then breaking the paro. The taste was worth all the trouble. You get
away with it, not to mention bragging rights.
Queue/Rush:
Sometimes the speed of production was less than that of consumption, and this
was especially for well-known items on the list on special occasions, this was
further followed by double takers. Most of us run and wait only for poori
or non-veg. (I was the only one standing in the 8th grade after getting
promoted from half pant to full pant category)
General Feelings:
Poori, Poha, Fried Rice, Non-Veg for almost all, most evening snacks (including
Parle-G, was it just in my JNV's menu?)
What's special in Puri:
After everyone has been beaten by hard physical exertion like
gardening (junior) or micro-management (senior) on a freak Sunday morning, the
crowd is hungry and no one should tell them to wait,
everyone has already had a bad Saturday. and they are eagerly waiting for this
round little oily thing, you are asking them to wait, not fair but they will be
standing in queue for hours.
And after waiting and fighting when you eat those hot puris with aloo sabzi,
and you eat with a crowd of hungry friends sitting around you. What is not
to love.
my point of view i think it could be re
These schools are directly run by MHRD Now Ministry of Education
and not by any state body. Now you are part of the central government.
You will not find local school teachers there, but you do get highly qualified
teachers from different regions of the country.
Navodaya is giving you its 24 hours x 7 years, so are you. You live there
longer, so your teachers are with you, on the same campus. (Of course you
get holidays).
(But think of it this way, living in a different place, with different kinds of
people, at such an early stage of life!! Damn, preparing for life at a young
age. Cool)
Fact: About 100-120 normal schools can be opened in the cost of one Navodaya
Vidyalaya. Because here you are getting 7 years long scholarship. Not
only a part of studies, but also a part of living. Uniforms, shoes, books,
notebooks. (Even toothpaste, tooth brush, soap etc. Yes, I'm serious -_-).
some more things.
Three Language System: You will be learning another Indian
regional language here apart from Hindi and English. And based on your
interest, you will get a chance (Ninth Class) to study at that place of the
country. What we call escape.
Sports : You are here round the clock in the school premises. Anyone can
easily fulfill their dreams of sports as per their interest. Many students
have played at the School Games Federation of India level.
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test:
Navodaya Vidyalayas select their students on the basis of a qualifying
examination called Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test and which was
earlier created, developed and organized by the National Council of Educational
Research and Training, but now these The examinations are conducted by the
Central Board of Secondary Education. This exam is conducted every year at
all India level and at district and block level. This test is subjective
and class-neutral and has been designed to ensure that it does not cause any
inconvenience to rural children.
Reservation of Seats
In Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, mainly children from rural areas are admitted. There
is a provision to give admission to rural children in 75 percent seats. Seats
are reserved for children belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in
proportion to their population in the district, but this reservation should not
be less than the national average. One-third of the total seats are
reserved for girls and three percent for children with disabilities.
Co-educational residential school with free education
Navodaya Vidyalayas, affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education,
provide free education to gifted children from class 6 to class 12. In
Navodaya Vidyalayas, admission is given at class-6 level as well as through
lateral admission in class-9 and class-11. Each Navodaya Vidyalaya is a
co-educational residential institution, in which arrangements have been made to
meet the expenses of free food and accommodation, uniform, text-books,
stationery and rail and bus fare for commuting home. However, a partial
fee of Rs 600 per month is charged from the students of class 9 to class 12 as
Navodaya Vikas Nidhi. SC/ST students, girl child, disabled students and
children from below poverty line families are fully exempted from this fee.
Compliance of three
language formula
Navodaya Vidyalaya Yojana has a provision for compliance of three language
formula. The third language taught in Hindi speaking districts is
associated with the migration of students. All Navodaya Vidyalayas follow
the three-language formula, i.e. regional language, Hindi and English teaching.
Medium of Instruction The medium of instruction
up to class-7 or class-8 is mother tongue/regional language. After this,
Hindi/English remains a common medium of instruction in all Navodaya
Vidyalayas.
